How to get a refund from Delta Air Lines
If Delta cancels your flight or changes or delays it significantly and you do not want the rebooking, you can cancel for a refund of the unflown part of your ticket in My Trips or through Delta's refund form. Tickets bought direct can also be cancelled for a full refund under the 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation rule.

What Delta Air Lines's help pages say about refunds
- When Delta cancels your flight or it is hit by a significant delay or schedule change (3 hours or more domestic, 6 hours or more international) and you are unhappy with the rebooking, you can cancel for a refund of the unflown portion plus paid seats and bag fees, or take an eCredit valid for 5 years, and if Delta cannot rebook you and you do nothing for 24 hours it refunds you automatically. Source
- Under Risk-Free Cancellation, a qualifying eTicket bought from Delta can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund with no fees. Source
- Cancelling a non-refundable ticket (Classic and Basic) gets you an eCredit minus any cancellation fee rather than cash, Basic tickets cannot be changed or refunded after the 24-hour window, and a ticket not cancelled before departure has no remaining value. Source
- Card refunds are typically processed within 7 business days and can take up to 2 billing cycles to show, while check, cash and other payments typically take about 20 calendar days. Source
- Cancelling: Go to My Trips, choose Need to Cancel? and then Start Flight Cancellation before your flight departs. Refundable and Extra tickets are refunded to the original payment method, while non-refundable tickets become an eCredit minus any fee. Source
